2010: Aarhus Stories
About the concept
‘Aarhus Stories’ is the result of an untraditional partnership between film directors and song writers. The song writers’ songs replace the traditional manuscript and challenge the director in an entirely new way. The films have all been shot in Aarhus in 24 hours, and they all last three to ten minutes.
Jo Nesbø (NO) & Søren Kragh-Jacobsen – ‘Finished Man’
From a boxing club in Aarhus one of the original Dogme 95 film directors, Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, tells his story on the basis of ‘Finished Man’ – a song written by famous, Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbø.
Band Ane/Rune T. Kidde & Anders Berthelsen – ‘Tomorrow We Dine At My Place’
An electronic ‘wondergirl’, a writer/musician/cartoonist and a talented animation film director are the key ingredients, when Band Ane, Rune T. Kidde and Anders Berthelsen from Ja Film challenge each other.
Josh Rouse (US) & Robin Färdig (SE) – ‘Beach Boy’
With the song ‘In the Neighbourhood’ Josh Rouse has written the soundtrack of Aarhus Festival 2010. In the hands of Swedish director Robin Färdig it has developed into a film about neighbourliness and child like excitement.
Howe Gelb (US) & Bruce Gladwin (AU) – ‘Better Man Than Me’
Giant Sand front man, Howe Gelb from Tucson, Arizona and artistic director Bruce Gladwin from the Australian theatre company, Back to Back Theatre, are the men behind this alternative Aarhus Story.
