  • About Filmlab Aarhus

The vision for Filmlab Aarhus is to become the annual national film event, which both Danish and international film makers look at to discover new talent.

As the name suggests, Filmlab Aarhus is a festival that gives both young and already established filmmakers a space where they can experiment, try new ways and develop their talents.

Every year we challenge talents at all levels to participate in concepts like ‘Aarhus Stories’, ‘DOX: LAB’ and various other film experiments, and the outcome is 20 to 30 different and meaningful movies that world premiere at the festival.

Of course, not all of the newly produced films are perfect; however, we would rather live with the flaws and deficiencies, if we avoid the cliché of strolling down the lane of ordinariness. What matters is the drive and desire to play as well as the courage to dare.

Filmlab Aarhus was created in collaboration between Aarhus Festival and CPH: DOX and first saw the light of day in 2010. The festival is supported by the West Danish Film Fund and The Danish Film Institute.

Behind Filmlab Aarhus there is an advisory board consisting of Peter Aalbaek Jensen of Zentropa, Rikke Lauridsen from DR, Tina Fischer, CPH: DOX and Jens Folmer Jepsen from Aarhus Festival.

The Aarhus Festival secretariat is responsible for the daily operation of Filmlab Aarhus.
